The exact time in Seoul provides the current local time in South Korea's capital, a global technology and pop culture powerhouse. Seoul operates on Korea Standard Time (KST), which is UTC+9 year-round. South Korea does not observe Daylight Saving Time, maintaining a consistent time offset that matches Japan (JST) and parts of eastern Russia and Indonesia.

The Korea Exchange (KRX) trades from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM KST, with a closing auction at 3:20-3:30 PM. As the operator of the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets, KRX's trading hours overlap fully with Tokyo (both at UTC+9) from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Seoul's same-time-zone relationship with Tokyo (no difference) is unique among major Asian financial centres — the two cities are separated by only about 1,100 km but share a border at sea, creating a seamless 200+ million person economic zone operating on identical clocks.

South Korea briefly observed DST during the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics, setting clocks forward 1 hour from May to October to extend daylight hours for the games. This was a rare instance of DST in East Asia and remains an interesting footnote in timekeeping history. Today, some South Korean lawmakers periodically propose DST adoption for energy savings, but proposals have consistently been rejected due to minimal benefits at Korea's mid-latitude position.

Seoul is 14 hours ahead of New York (EST), 9 hours ahead of London (GMT), 8 hours ahead of Central Europe (CET), 3.5 hours ahead of Mumbai, 2 hours ahead of Bangkok, 1 hour ahead of Singapore/Beijing/Hong Kong, 1 hour ahead of Tokyo (same time), and 1 hour behind Sydney (AEDT). Best international calling times: morning (9:00-11:00 AM KST) reaches all of Asia; afternoon (1:00-3:00 PM KST) aligns with early morning Europe (5:00-7:00 AM CET); and late evening (9:00-11:00 PM KST) corresponds to US East Coast morning (7:00-9:00 AM EST).

South Korea does not observe Daylight Saving Time. KST is fixed at UTC+9 year-round. North Korea also uses UTC+9 since May 2018 (previously UTC+8:30 from 2015-2018). South Korea briefly observed DST from 1948 to 1951, then again in 1987-1988 for the Seoul Olympics, but has not used it since.
